  82.                 Thank you for trying out WRITE CHINESE!

  84. This program teaches basic Chinese calligraphy, focusing on 150 of the
  85. most frequently encountered characters which constitute approximately
  86. 1/3 of all printed materials. Both traditional and simplified characters
  87. are covered. The student practices calligraphy by drawing characters on
  88. simulated "nine-square box" paper. The program evaluates each character
  89. as it is being drawn, providing continuous feedback and positive
  90. reinforcement.

  92. This program also has quiz options to teach character meanings as well as
  93. Mandarin (Pinyin) and Cantonese (Yale) transliterations.

  95. WRITE CHINESE is shareware, and of course, we would really appreciate
  96. your monetary support. Registration brings with it many benefits,
  97. including a larger Chinese database and bonus programs.  Whether or not

  104.                     NOTES ON RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS
  105.  
  106. WRITE CHINESE runs best as a stand-alone DOS application. If launched
  107. from Windows, the opening music may sound unpleasantly erratic. This will
  108. be true even if the program is provided "exclusive" use of system
  109. resources.
  110.  
  111. To toggle off the opening music, the program may launched via the
  112. CHINESE.PIF file provided as part of this program package.  The PIF file
  113. provides CHINESE.EXE with 450K memory, full-screen operation, exclusive
  114. use of system resources, and shuts off the opening music via a
  115. command-line parameter. The CHINESE.ICO file displays the character
  116. zhong-1, meaning "middle" as in the "Middle Kingdom" (China).

  118. The CHINESE.PIF file assumes that the program is installed in the
  119. C:\CHINESE subdirectory. If installed on some other drive or in a
  120. different subdirectory, you should use the PIF Editor to modify the file
  121. appropriately.

  123. If you prefer launching WRITE CHINESE from a full-screen DOS prompt,
  124. type "CHINESE N" to switch off the opening music.
